KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – The 46th ASEAN Summit commenced on May 26th, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, marking a gathering of regional leaders under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” The summit, hosted by Malaysia, brings together heads of state from the 10 ASEAN member countries: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brunei.
This weekend, Thailand’s Prime Minister participated in the 46th ASEAN Summit Plenary and the informal ASEAN Retreat, followed by a leaders’ luncheon. The afternoon session featured discussions with representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Youth, and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).
A key highlight of the summit was the signing ceremony for the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, which outlines the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 to guide the region’s development over the next two decades. The declaration aims to address both regional and global challenges, including the situation in Myanmar, tensions in the South China Sea, developments in the Middle East, and strategies to navigate U.S. trade policies constructively.
Thailand’s Prime Minister stressed strengthening regional unity to counter global economic volatility, promoting seamless connectivity across all dimensions, and advancing initiatives such as ASEAN tourism collaboration and Digital Trade Logistics to enhance smart regional transport systems. Additionally, Thailand pushed for enhanced cooperation to combat transnational crime, particularly drug trafficking and online scams, which impacts the quality of life for citizens across ASEAN.
The weekend concluded with a gala dinner hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister and his spouse, bringing further dialogue among the leaders.
