Gordon Everingham has been in the golf doldrums for seemingly ages but his performance at Greenwood on Wednesday blew away all the unpleasant memories of a golfing famine with a feast of 43 points, winning by an emphatic margin of seven points. Phew Gordon, gizza chance!
Here we feature events i n the PGS' history. We go back to the same week in the past to relive some of our golfing stories. Were you there I wonder, in 2008?
On Tuesday, 8th July, the Pattaya Golf Society visited Khao Kheow for a stableford round over the testing C and A nines under brooding skies. A trip there now is "child's play" after many months of arduous driving during the highway reconstruction. They found the course in fine condition and, with the reintroduction of the A nine, playing off the yellow tees would be a daunting task, especially as the wind was up all day. As always the essence of a good round on this track is accuracy as the Bermuda rough can be a brute. Two in-form golfers held the minor placings as Erik Antonnen took third with 30 points and Don Nellis ended his current stay with 31 for second. It was left to the OK Corral's golf gaffer, Len Jones, to find the top of the leaderboard with a steady 32 points for a rare win. David Thomas and Erik Antonnen took the twos pot for their birdie efforts on C3 and A5 respectively and Chris Voller had the distinction of receiving the Booby Bevy for his shabby round, his putting touch having deserted him on the back nine, and failing to record a "two" for the first time in five rounds. Later at the presentation David Thomas received the Society's "Player of the Month" award for June after another series of high quality performances. Khao Kheow had once again been a real challenge and currently is very good value for money.

Latest Khao Kheow review:
"
... The views on this course are great. Greens in good shape. Fairways have some crabgrass creeping in but overall a tough course, have to hit fairways in the middle for flat lies. Rough is thick and difficult to escape particularly if has rained recently. Good value to play as long as management keeps the fees competitive. ."

Step One:

Step Two:

Easy, na!
...Green Valley management
Halfway through low season and Green valley are still insisting on a myopic discount scheme which depends on groups being twenty and above. Get a life! Average golf groups in Pattaya have been running at less than fifteen generally during the last few months. Result? Hardly anyone goes there. Yesterday Mr Len was only the 11th golfer to check in the locker-room when the group arrived to play Silky Oak and a quick squint at the book at 2:30pm revealed that no more than fifty golfers had checked in all day to play a selection of the three courses currently available. A twenty-seven percent drop in green fees in 2010 and even more this year. High Season should see some real action!
